PRIMARY ENGLISH COURSES

LOWER PRIMARY ENGLISH COURSE: (P1 – P2)

This course is designed for young children who are attending Primary 1 and Primary 2 in a Hong Kong primary school.

They employ a theme-based approach which allows children to learn English in a meaningful way. Interactive activities give children lots of opportunities to practise and build confidence.

Course Aims

  • develop your child’s language and literacy skills
  • consolidate and expand vocabulary and grammar learned in school
  • increase confidence and enjoyment in using English.

Course Content

  • build English language and literacy skills through songs, games, drama and focused activities
  • integrate phonics and pronunciation throughout the course
  • use topic-based materials to present and develop vocabulary and language structures in natural contexts.

Level:                           P1 – P2

Hours:                          1 hour per week

Class size:                     2 – 8 students per class

Course time table:         Wednesday: 4:30 – 5:30

                                           Saturday 1:00 – 2:00

MIDDLE PRIMARY ENGLISH COURSE (P3 – P4)

This course is designed for young children who are attending Primary 3 and 4 in a Hong Kong primary school.

  • Students are grouped according to age and language proficiency and are placement tested to identify the class that best meets their language learning needs. This course is taught through communicative and task-based methodology.

Course Aims

  • increase your child’s confidence in using active English skills, particularly speaking
  • encourage students to interact with each other and the teacher in an English-only environment
  • consolidate and expand vocabulary and grammar learned in school, enabling students to use new words and structures in their speaking and writing
  • develop your child’s literacy skills through a range of text types
  • motivate your child with an enjoyable learning experience
  • develop skills for international qualifications such as Cambridge English: Starters, Movers and Flyers exams

Course Content

  • topic-based materials which present and develop grammar and vocabulary in natural contexts
  • written tasks such as stories, poems and letters to introduce a variety of text types
  • integrated readers and storybooks (MP1 and MP2) and literacy material from UK schools (MP3) to develop literacy skills
  • fun, interactive activities such as songs, games and drama which emphasise spoken fluency and boost confidence in an English-only environment
  • project work to activate and consolidate English learned in class and develop collaborative learning skills.

UPPER PRIMARY ENGLISH COURSE (P5 – P6)

This course is designed for children who are attending Primary 5 and Primary 6 in a Hong Kong primary school. Students are grouped according to age and language proficiency. They are placement tested to identify the class that best meets their language learning needs. This course uses communicative and task-based methodology

Course Aims

  • increase confidence in the English language skills of speaking and writing which will help prepare students for secondary school
  • encourage students to interact with each other and the teacher in an English-only environment
  • consolidate and expand vocabulary and grammar learned in school, enabling students to use new words and structures in their speaking and writing
  • further develop literacy skills through exposure to a range of text types
  • motivate students with an enjoyable learning experience
  • develop skills for international qualifications such as Cambridge English: Starters, Movers, Flyers, Key for Schools and Preliminary for Schools exams

Course Content

  • grammar and vocabulary introduced, practised and developed in natural, topic-based contexts
  • written tasks such as stories, reviews, reports and letters to increase knowledge of text types and associated language
  • authentic materials such as storybooks and literacy material to develop literacy skills and encourage reading for pleasure
  • interactive, communicative activities such as role plays and communicative games which emphasise spoken fluency and boost confidence
  • project work to activate and consolidate English learned in class and develop collaborative learning skills.

Level:                            P5 – P6

Hours:                           1 hour per week

Class size:                     2 – 8 students per class

Course time table:      Wednesday: 6:00 – 7:00

                                         Saturday 2:00 – 3:00
